Poland is more often perceived as the country of elderly people. Statistically every 100 people of working age take into account 52 pensioners. Especially old, overcrowded cities have noticed the problem of high development being inadequate to elderly people. Only in Krakow, 19% of all city residents are people in their 60s. That is 143,000 people. Mostly for that reason, Krakow (tours) has started the action “Place friendly to seniors”, which aims in raising the awareness of senior residents of Krakow and their social situation.
What is the purpose of event organized by the Malopolska Voivodeship and city of Krakow? The aim is to promote senior-friendly places where elderly people can feel good. Examples could be various, starting with cafes and restaurants in Krakow, up to cultural events, most of which are dominated by young and elderly people.
Having said that the main aim is to raise the awareness I meant the awareness of consumption sector of local industry. Seniors represent a significant percentage of customers, and soon may become the main clientele. This may affect various branches of industry, Krakow tourism as an example, which is of great importance nowadays. Seniors depends mainly on providing convenient transportation means, adequate prices and friendly atmosphere and tolerance, especially for the elderly in the city’s cafes, cafe bars and restaurants within Krakow.
